Me, I retired from PvE, just no challenge to it anymore, and filled with lame people who think their good. PvP, still worth playing, I do enjoy killing other players over monsters.
|
Hah. Not necessarily. One might be so unfortunate to get hit by a car or shanked somewhere.
As for being retired; Not any time soon. I still have lots to do in-game.

Isn't AoC "the king" right now?
|
AoC's players seem to think so, and insist on letting everyone know on non-AoC forums...
Amazingly, though, I don't actually personally know anyone online or otherwise that likes anything about it at all...

That said, I find it hard to "retire", per se, from Guild Wars. It's not like you're paying to play or anything. Log in whenever you want. If you're bored, oh well.
But yes, I have been offline for quite a while.

I retired my position at Burger King means - you no longer work there. I retired my position within my company means - you no longer fill the position which you had filled previously. Retired = quit - if you keep logging in every so often or keep reading the forums and taking part in ANYTHING Guildwars after purchasing the games - then you haven't retired.
If you are retired, you will not read this thread.
|
Humbug. Retired from the game means you no longer play. You always could come out of retirement and play once again, but it grows less likely over time. Take sports as an example. Any professional athlete who retires from the sport and moves into broadcasting is still retired from the sport, though still interested in it enough to gain alternative employment and use of skill in a field surrounding said sport, which is much the same as continuing on the forums.
A clean solid break like the one you describe is rare. If you quit one job and start another, that isnt retirement. Happens at the end of ones working career, but one usually pursues the things one loves during that time and, if your work was in a field you also loved, you might continue following the field, but you'd still be retired.
Back to the OP, aye, you can count me among the retired, much as I miss it from time to time. Would I entertain a comeback? I have once before and made a great friend and found a new guild, and feel rather bad that I havent been in game in some 8+ months now, but life calls for other use of my time, more so every day I spend not playing. That, and the game has changed from some of the things I used to enjoy, as well as I am not replacing my PC. I follow the game still here on the forums much as I might read the news and occasionally comment. I did like aspects of the game, afterall. It'd be silly to leave it but not follow up on it from time to time out of curiosity.

I retired during Nightfall. I'm never touching a GuildWars product again, and I'm getting my "fix" from other games. I still come back once every few months to see how the game is doing, just as I do with most other games I've played within the last few years.

AoC has had an unspeakably poor release. Server stability is fine, but the game is so riddled with bugs and missing content that I deemed it unplayable after a few days. I'll give that game a shot once it's actually finished, but as it is now, it's in released beta mode. There's a good number of players who vehemently defend it for no apparent reason (I suspect denial of the fact that they spent money on an unfinished product), but there's just so many things that currently don't work in that game. You don't publish a book with missing pages, but somehow game developers are getting away with releasing games that are so far from finished that it's a blatant insult to the customers. There are game-breaking bugs in AoC that simply cannot have been missed during testing (if there was any), so I have to believe that the game was sent to retail with the full knowledge that these bugs existed. I do not enjoy getting stuck in invisible particles every 30 seconds while running across terrain, nor playing a class where numerous abilities flat out don't do anything. Loot tables everywhere are messed up. The game is so riddled with bugs that you can't play a full ten minutes without encountering at least one, and probably several. The game's structure and intended gameplay looks interesting, but they were too hellbent on releasing at the announced date that they sold us a work in progress and made us beta testers who pay to test. I won't even mention the amount of advertised features that quite simply weren't put in the game. It's a disgrace, but apparently it's becoming more and more acceptable.

I predicted before that AoC was going to go the way of Vanguard:SoH. They had, what, nearly a half million sales of AoC at launch? I'll bet once it's been established for a few months you see that they're down to 200k or fewer active subs.
It's got a few things that are "innovative" in the sense that they haven't been built into an MMO before, but I think once people realize that the game is still inferior - combat wise - to regular action/adventure single player games, the enthusiasm willl dry up pretty quickly.

Reminds me of the Hellgate: London beta. No /stuck command or similar, but damned if every single generated instance didn't have a half dozen ways for you to get trapped between objects. Plus, the warp back to town worked like a town scroll in Diablo 2, so if you couldn't walk to the portal, that did you no good, and there was no logout feature, so you had to completely shut down the application and restart it every time you got stuck!
I learned my lesson years ago not to get involved in an MMO right at the start. The temptation is there to be among the first and have all the opportunities that come with that status, but man you have to suffer for a few months if you go that route...

Yea, but he hates all MMOs so I fear he'll just avoid it outright

Retirement is the point at which a person quits working at their place of employment, permenantly...if you are not employed playing the game, then quitting it is not retirement. I quit months ago, but occasionally look through the forums to see what's going on...I even said goodbye to folks in the forum because I thought I might not come back...just passing through atm, thought I could afford 2 cents.

This is my first time on these forums for....over a year now I guess.
I've quit GW. All my friends who I used to hardcore PvP with quit as well.
I'm just waiting for Guild Wars 2 now. Hoping to get into the beta when it comes.

Not retired but I really don't play as much as I used to. The HOM with all those titles is really not my cup of tea, so I wait for GW2.

I am in my "retirement" planning phase right now.
I don't dislike GW in a way that I am going to stop playing, but yet, after three years of playing the game...I need a break.
I plan on getting myself to R3 in KoABD, a few more destroyer weapons (not getting them all) and then take a long break. I may step back in during festivals or other weekend events, but I want to feel renewed and excited to play when GW2 is finally released.
I have friends I will keep in contact with and a friend who may be interested in starting to play GW, so I may stick around longer than I may plan, but a vacation will be needed.

Yeah i never play, but i frequently log on and look at my characters, and always stick up for Guild Wars whenever someone mentions a incorrect shortfall of the game.

nothing lasts forever, if you don't retire from the game, it'll eventually retire you... the same is true for everything.
